Discover Some Natural Remedies for the Best Moisturizer for Dry Skin

Discover Some Natural Remedies for the Best Moisturizer for Dry Skin

Expert Author Marjorie M Harder
Winter is just around the corner and you may be looking for the best moisturizer for dry skin. With fall and winter approaching you will find that your skin is probably dryer, itchier and flakier than in the spring or summer months. Now is the time to think about finding some easy to use home recipes for moisturizing your skin.
A good way to start with moister skin is when you are heading outdoors, you will want to use some products that are good for hands and face to help in keeping them moist. Another way is by putting on a moisturizing lotion right after you finish with your shower or bath. You will want to do this when your skin is still a bit damp.
Washing your skin gently instead of scrubbing hard and fast, this will be less irritating for your skin. You could try softening your skin with a cup of powdered milk in your bath water. You will want to use water that isn't steaming or hot water, because this just takes away from the natural oils on your skin. Another thing to try is by putting some vinegar or lemon juice into your bath. Also, limit your bath or shower time, the longer you are in there the more the natural oils on your skin will be removed.
You should avoid using those drying or harsh soaps when washing. When your skin is dry you need to use gentle cleansers and creams. Using a mild soap is better because of the added oils it produces to help in keeping your skin moist. Applying a cream or oil moisturizer right after the bath will help in protecting your surface skin cells and keep the moisture in.
On colder or damp days you should use a humidifier. Using a portable or furnace humidifier can help in keeping your skin surface moist and will also help in getting rid of fungi or bacteria.
When choosing what clothes to wear will also help in keeping your skin moister in the winter months. Wearing things with natural fibbers in them, like silk or cotton will help your skin to breathe. When using a laundry soap, look out for those with perfumes or dyes in it, because they can just cause further irritation on your skin.
I hope that by following these simple and easy instructions or ideas, it has helped you with producing the best moisturizer for dry skin. I find that home remedies in helping to keep your skins moisture during the fall and winter months, has become a way of life for many people.

How Skin Aging Works

How Skin Aging Works

Expert Author Peter David Wendt
As we age our skin loses elasticity, smoothness, and begins to form fine lines and eventually wrinkles. There are two general categories in which skin aging occurs. These categories are broken down into internal and external factors. Internal factors include the natural aging process, which also takes into account an individual's genetic makeup. External factors are things that can be controlled such as diet, personal habits, and sun exposure. The following information discusses these two general categories and how the aging process works.
Normal Aging
Skin is basically divided into three layers. The epidermis is the outer most layer. The middle layer is the dermis and the inner layer is called the subcutaneous. As aging begins, the epidermis begins to thin. This begins to happen as soon as our early twenties. As we continue to age, the blood vessels in the dermis are more susceptible to breaking. Collagen is a protein found in the skin. As we age the collagen production slows down. Elastin is another protein in our connective tissues that enables the skin to remain pliable and "elastic". As this protein breaks down and becomes weaker with aging the skin is less elastic and sagging and loose skin appears. Both collagen and elastin are in the dermis, and this is where wrinkles and most aging takes place. Our skin also loses fat in the cheeks and chin area which causes sagging. The epidermis also loses its ability to retain moisture as the aging process occurs, thus the increase of dry skin. Finally, skin aging is affected by each individual's genetics. Just as there are a wide range of ages when people begin to get gray hair, the loss of collagen and elastin occurs at different points in each individual's life.
External Influences
External influences, or what is called extrinsic aging, are additional factors that age skin. External influences on skin are things that often age skin more quickly than the normal aging process. These factors include smoking, sun exposure, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, stress, poor diet, and exposure to cold and wind. Even going to bed without removing makeup can prematurely age skin. Most individuals would not show excessive signs of skin aging until much later in life if not for these external factors. Skin on other parts of the body that have rarely been exposed to the elements almost always is firmer years after the face and hands begin to show signs of aging.
While the natural aging process isn't something we can control, the external influences definitely are. Always using sunscreen, exercising, and eating healthy are simple things that will keep our skin looking healthy and young for years.

Senile Warts and Ageing

Senile Warts and Ageing

Expert Author Norma Holt
They are ugly and unavoidable but senile warts are a sign that the body is changing. The skin is one of the first areas to show symptoms of advancing age and none more so than the wrinkles and warts that accompany it. While there is no cure for either there are steps to take to help soften the effects. With wrinkles it has long been known that some creams work well while removing dead cells from the surface of the face is a practice that should be started at a young age.
When the first ugly dark brown and sometimes black warts first make their presence felt they are a shock that one has to live through. Many, however, can be softened and may even fade somewhat to make them less noticeable. If it is an ugly bumpy type it could be removed with proper treatment.
Many famous people in history have and do sport these imperfections as badges of their advancing years, much like grey hairs. Women are less prone to them than men for some reason. That may be because they quickly seek help to remove or make the effect less obvious.
Men with black crusty growths on their temples or above their eyes are rather common among those around their old age era. Some, however, get them at a much younger age and in rarer cases they can spread as ugly looking scars across the back, hands and or arms. They cause loss of confidence and in the worst case scenarios can lead to depression.
When senile warts and ugly black growths first appear the reaction is shock and horror. So how much is the fault of general health matters or simple neglect?

Time to Learn the Basics of Psoriasis

Time to Learn the Basics of Psoriasis

In order for an army to defeat their enemy they must know their enemy, the same goes for anyone looking to battle the disease psoriasis. Psoriasis is a disease that attacks the skin. No one really knows what causes psoriasis, but scientists are learning more every day and believe that they've linked this disease to a genetic mishap.
Before we discuss psoriasis further, let's discuss how 'normal' skin operates. Your skin goes through sort of a conveyor belt process. There are two layers of skin, the top and bottom. The top layer is the skin that you see is actually see. It is also the oldest layer. It exists for about 28-30 days, dies off and falls away. It's replaced by the layer bottom layer. As this is happening and new bottom layer is being created. This process repeats itself over and over again throughout a person's life. We don't even realize that it's happening. Just remember that as you towel dry after a shower you are actually wiping out thousands of skin cells.
The process is different when someone suffers from psoriasis. With psoriasis the skin regeneration moves much faster than the 28-30 days. In that case, the skin regeneration usually cycles in about 3-5 days. This happens because new cells are developing much more quickly and force themselves through the top layer of the skin. This causes a buildup of dead skin on the surface. This buildup appears to us in the form of patch, red scaly plaques. The common outbreak spots are in the scalp, elbows, knees and knuckles.
While the true cause and cure of psoriasis remains elusive, we do know a few things. Research has shown that family genetics plays a huge factor in who contracts psoriasis. Also, lifestyle choice play a role. Too much stress, sunburn, excessive drinking, being overweight and some medications can trigger psoriasis.
Good news, although psoriasis can look a little unsightly it is not contagious and it isn't life-threatening. Also, psoriasis symptoms can vary from person to person. One person will have small areas of patchy skin while another person will have widespread plaques. While there currently isn't a cure for psoriasis there are ways to limit the outbreaks. Keeping the skin hydrated is a great way to limit the plaques. As stated earlier, proper lifestyle choices are important. And eating properly can have an impact too. There is plenty of information on psoriasis on the internet. As always, consult with your primary care physician before making any major lifestyle changes.

Tattoos Are Often Dangerous, Ugly and Painful to Remove

Tattoos Are Often Dangerous, Ugly and Painful to Remove

Expert Author Norma Holt
People everywhere are lining up for tattoos which can be anything from a sleeve or two to tats over the entire body. Some just want a name and other's a flower or two. The problem is do they know what they are getting into. The list of ingredients in the inks used for this type of artwork would leave many with severe question marks over why they allowed someone to so mark their bodies.
Tattoos are permanent and to get them removed involves a lot of painful laser surgery. That just removes the ink as the scars remain behind. Often they are done when the recipient is drunk and not quite up to making sensible choices. The questions one should ask are not even thought of as many are now performed by back yard operators who acquire their instruments and colour over the Internet.
Horror stories have come to light about how many tattoos fail to heal and that is mainly because of the substance used. Black ink is composed of charcoal which is carcinogenic. Other inks contain toxic ingredients that produce the colours required. One man in Australia recently testified of how his tattoo led to him having his leg amputated. Another victim of a backyard operator, a young lady, has a scar that itches constantly and often bleeds while never healing.
From a distance these graphics look like scars which if a person was born with them would want them removed or hidden. There is no way that anyone could consider them nice to look at except perhaps the one wearing them. Family involvement often results in young kids being tattooed long before they even know what they are doing.
Fashion is one thing but common sense is another matter entirely. Surely it is time to wake up to the negative side of marking the body with such a permanent scar. Skin protection is vital as cancer can strike anyone and putting substances into it that may cause problems in the future is hardly a wise thing to do.
One can't imagine the ugliness of age related or senile warts until one finds them appearing on the surface of the skin. But what about the health issues associated with injecting carcinogenic substances into the protective covering that covers our bodies.
